CUF Update John Walter & Ron Fresh

·         Attended last CUF meeting

·         Want to do a project with Habitat for Humanity

·         Will vote on the issue

·         We can build support for our neighborhood projects by developing a relationship with CUF

·         Business Committee wants us to join up

·         Need to take a slow, easy approach as we work with the organization

·         Not sure how to become a member of CUF because so many members have told us different things

·         If we do become members of CUF, we are no longer Over-the-Rhine

·         A splinter group of CUF is the West McMicken Homeowner’s Association

·         Usually around 30 people a meeting

 

Over-the-Rhine Association

·         More political

·         More resident-focused than homeowner focused

 

Neighborhood Activities

·         Street Sidewalk Sale

·         Saturday, October 27, 2001

·         9am to noon

·         All residents can participate

·         Purpose:  to give portion of earnings to Association for Adopt-a-Block projects

·         Ron and Jan will place the classified in The Enquirer

·         Nicole will design and distribute the flyer

 

Progressive Holiday Dinner

·         In lieu of the Christmas party, we will have another progressive dinner

·         Saturday, December 1, 2001

·         Lorie and Nicole will organize details

·         Volunteers for courses

·         Ron and Jan Fresh:  Appetizers and drinks

·         Patty Hubbard

·         Carroll Bailey

 

Vacant Properties

·         540 Klotter

·         Vacant for years

·         Tear down was scheduled, but the owner appealed

·         Structurally not really able to renovate

·         A public nuisance

·         Appeal hearing 1:30, October 4, City Hall, Room 328

·         516 Klotter

·         Owners were in the neighborhood in the last couple of weeks

·         Should be condemned       

 

Adopt-a-Block:  Keep Cincinnati Beautiful

·         Written admission of projects needs to be submitted to the committee

·         Ron and John to complete

·         Facades need painting

·         Garbage cans out of sight

·         Dog droppings

·         Baymiller and Freeman areas as common areas

·         Improvements to the turnaround @ Conroy

·         Park Benches

 

Other Neighborhood Issues

·         Carroll Bailey – Cinti. Street Calming Committee packet

·         50% of the street must sign off on speed bumps

·         Need someone to facilitate the process

·         Diane Lacker will make copy of the materials

·         Will also look into street mirrors

 

·         Ron Fresh – City Council candidate endorsement

·         Todd Ward, Republican

·         Young, professional

·         Invite him to our next meeting – win or lose

·         Contributions to his campaign

·         David Pepper is also another strong candidate

·         An Ivy League grad
